Security checks before renting

Before signing up for a rental property here are some things to check:

- How safe is the neighbourhood - what is the crime rate like

-Take a drive around on a Saturday nigh and Sunday Morning - check out the neighbours 

-  Ask for a copy of the work order that shows the lock to your door was changed or rekeyed.

- Ensure your door is equipped with a quality deadbolt lock or simialr and  peephole.

- Ensure ranchsliders and french doors have proper working locks to shut the door tight ensure there is also patio bolts for extra security -              some ranchsliders can be jumped open.

- Ensure all window latches work.        

- Ensure the garage door and outside laundry all have working locks and keys

- If there are security lights are they working?

- Is there a working smoke alarm?

No use signing up and then finding out these basic things do not work.
